I, too, wondered why they couldn't delete or block memories if it became necessary, if they were already overriding their programming in other ways.

I always thought it was just their morality coming into play in a different way -they could reprogram themselves to kill out of necessity, but reprogramming themselves to forget would be a luxury.

My favorite thing about Erek were his historical jokes. It's my personal canon that when he next revealed himself to a set of humans, the Animorphs made it in there. "Can convincingly pass myself off as someone? Sure. I once spent a week as Jake when the Animorphs were getting home by stowing away on a train in Canada."

Eh, the complete and utter lack of continuity regarding what their programming actually allowed them to do drove me nuts. Especially after I studied what pacifism actually means. I wish the writers understood what it actually means, so that they could actually write it accurately or deliberately subvert it. Especially because there really are interesting stories to tell.
