See the sweet little car in the photo! Its a Miata! Its VERY fun to drive! Its a convertible! Its the last of the type 1's with the pop up headlights! We own one just like it (ours is in the garage though, not in Texas).
I am still fighting with them. They admit it is their fault. They say the moving insurance had a $250 deductible which I have to eat (most likely true). What we are arguing about is the replacement cost of the top. They say I can get a new top for a tad over $500. I called all over north Florida and southern Georgia and the lowest quote I got was $800. They have sent me a check for $310 which means the other $500 would be on me. Have I mentioned lately how much I hate insurance companies
If you've provided them quotes, then it seems to me that the burden of proof of lower cost replacements would be on them. Still, this is an insurance company we're talking about. Bastards!
That is a very sucky situation. Typical of insurance companies.
But on the bright side, you are one lucky bloke because that is a VERY cool car!!
For my birthday last year my wife rented a brand new Mazda MX5 (as they are called down here in Australia) for the weekend and we had a lot of fun zipping about through the hills. I swear I didn't need to slow down for corners at all! Sadly when the birthday was over I had to give it back. *sigh* :)
Yup! It is a Type 1 1997 Mazda Miata MX-5. I only use the MX-5 if I need to order a part or look up a code or something. Everyone here in the U.S. knows them as Miatas. I think the Japanese called it a Euros Roadster or something similar. It is a terribly fun car to drive! We have actually thought about replacing ours with another sport convertible. We looked at the new miatas. Bigger engine but they really ruined the gas mileage. In the city it gets around 19 MPG and our 11 year old model gets 32 MPG in the city.
Funny you posted you have a 1/6 mini cooper. It is one of the models we have thought about replacing the miata with. I sat in one about 4 months ago. The head room is a little tight (I'm almost 6'2"), but livable. The thing that killed me was the instrument layout and look is horrible. Maybe I need to look for an older one. I have seen a convertible one in town and I don't remember it having this really bad instrument package in the dash.
