So I think we may have finished Hamish Macbeth last night. It's a little hard to tell - the disc said Season 3, disc 2 (which means there should be one more) but it felt very Grand Finale-ish: epic quest, resolution of romantic and sexual tension, MAJOR CHARACTER DEATH... if this wasn't the finale perhaps it should have been? It's called Hamish Macbeth and is a gentle slice-of-life show about a small town cop in the village of Loch Dubh, Scotland. The lead is Robert Carlyle, so that's pretty great. It's got almost an All Creatures Great and Small sort of feel to it. Netflix has it on disc, which is how I've been watching it. It's three short seasons and all about quirky, slightly strange, and EXTREMELY SCOTTISH people.

You might also check out Due South if you don't know that one - MFU people tend to get along well with Due South. It's a super gay buddy cop show set in Chicago, the primary conceit of which is that the main character is a Canadian Mountie. Hilarity ensues? But mayamaia headcanons Napoleon as his maternal uncle (and Dale Cooper of Twin Peaks as a long lost cousin) so that gives you kind o the idea.

Due South is 90s at its most 90s-ish, Hamish Macbeth is I think 2000s or thereabouts.

They both have dogs as main characters as well...

I have another LJ friend who loves Due South (Rides 4 Ever). If you haven't friended her, you might want to check her journal out. She's a lot of fun.

Thanks for the rec! the next time I'm binging, I will remember it! :D
