My point precisely! This research only takes into account extra-terrestrial alien intelligences. Leaving us wholly unprepared to deal with whatever alien intelligences may happen to be right here - the issues involved are very different!

Actually, we ARE working on that: think of how much effort we're putting into figuring out dolphin and whale communication. And other species, for that matter.
