Sad News

Our favorite bookstore just went out of business. It was very sad. In typical Columbus fashion, there were two phenomenal used book stores across the street from each other. We would go into the other one more often, because it was on the same side of the street as the Farmer's Market, and I liked the unexpected finds you get from the huge ( Read more... )

Wasn't it GORGEOUS when you found out Mycroft WASN'T the enemy?

Well, we'd both been thinking pretty hard that that guy was Mycroft. But...we both also kind of thought that they'd bizzarely decided to combine the characters of Mycroft and Moriarty.

That is, Joel-Henry thought "Hm, if this is Moriarty, they've sure given him a lot of Mycroft's traits. Like all of them. Nah, he's probably just Mycroft." I thought the same thing except for that last bit. [Actually, when he mentioned it, I was like - nah, that can't be Mycroft; he's way too thin...]

And then, when the reveal came, I was like - "Oh crap! Mycroft is the villain! Sherlock is screwed!" That is, I thought they'd combine the characters, and made a Moriarty out of Mycroft - rather than making a Mycroft out of Moriarty. Then I figured out that they were different people and it all made a lot more sense.

But, um, yeah, I freakin' loved Mycroft. And I loved Watson going "wait, so, all that stuff you told me that sounded like sinister double-talk was literal? Wow ( ... )

Eh, miscommenting happens.

I had actually never heard of Mycroft (except a few organizations named for him) until after watching this. My Sherlock experience is not great. So what I was thinking was "Oh, Gatiss took the villain role for himself again...." I have to say, though, that him taking Mycroft is more cool, even though it's totally vain (or greedy) of him.

One of Stephen Moffat's sons was in the show too, third episode.

Sherlock... is definitely a different shade of arrogant than the Doctor. I mean, every time he says he's brilliant, it's generally by insulting someone else. But the Doctor claims his brilliance as a boring old fact of life. They really are totally different, and I don't see many similarities in the acting either.

Also, "Did I mention the comfy chairs?" "We have no need for comfy chairs." "I got him to say comfy chairs!" I posit that the Doctor shares just a teense of Mycroft's personality. At least so far as to have "no ambition" as Sherlock claims of Mycroft.

Mycroft shows up in exactly one of the original stories...I think it's the Greek Interpreter, but I could be wrong. Like Mary Morstan, though, he shows up quite a bit more in the radio drama - when Our Heroes get in deeply deeply over their heads, it's usually one of the two who pulls them out again ( ... )
