Sewn Leaves

I saw that qrissy commented that she wanted to see my sewn leaves that were mentioned in a previous post, so I was inspired to take some photos. After photographing two of the leaves to my satisfaction, my camera battery died, so two is all you get to see for now. The light is fading, so I'll hopefully take some more photos tomorrow.

Oooooh, these are GORGEOUS. I would totally mount these in a shadowbox to hang on my wall. Lovely lovely. How do you do it?

Thanks so much! I was thinking a shadowbox would be the way to go as well. They are very delicate when they are dry.

The key is to sew them when they are still "fresh" and pliable. All the different leaves I tried behaved differently and some were less brittle and therefore easier to sew than others. I found that patience and a gentle touch were my friends.

I'll be posting a more in depth appraisal of the whole process on my art blog: www.anikamari.com in the next few days (when I can get more photos!).
