Cording Contemplation

I took a break from stitching the gussets tonight so I could let my fingers rest and images drew up a very primitive cording plan.

Based mostly on the Christies pair of stays:

W'hoa! Just took a close look at the image of these stays (Christie's)---do I see white-on-white embroidery? In addition to the cording, I mean?

Yes, it is. It's very pretty isn't it?

It surely is very pretty! I have no hand for embroidery, I'm afraid, but how lovely it must be to wear something embroidered---or perhaps ladies of the day took it for granted that their stays would have those little frills and fillips? Was embroidery usual?
