Mikami, what is being done here is justice as well. There is a strategy by L and the others to bring us down even in this City, and I am doing all I can to counter them in return.

Sacrifices have to be made for the greater justice. If we show mercy this time around, the public will know, and this will further discredit L and his group. His name is already blemished in the City, and it is already clear who has already won.

Even then, there are still some more plans that must be put in place. Dietrich is doing me a favor by helping it along.

If I may speak frankly, God. From what little contact I had with them, their caliber has been exaggerated. You can gauge a person by the questions they ask... and I have been disappointed so far. Perhaps they may be trying to catch us off guard, perhaps not.

I agree that mercy should be shown to the vanquished, but the defendant is clearly guilty. If mercy is shown, would it not only encourage crime to propagate?

So it seems, and I know that they are a tragic disappointment so far. Perhaps this City has affected their capacities to think ahead, but even then, there's no such thing as being too careful.

The mercy shown to them is not one of altruism. We've only caught an insignificant pawn now; and he's someone I don't bother with. What our goal is to catch all of them, and destroy them in this City.
