I'm not totally ignorant of Canadian pronunciation, being that I live in Michigan. Up north a little ways, even the Michiganders sound Canadian - at least to me.
But... I need to see this DVD. I'm moving to Canada in two years, and then applying for citizenship. I need to talk like a Canadian! *grin*
*nod* Not sure about Michigan, but I definitely notice it with Minnesota accents. That's one of the things I found hilarious about watching Fargo -- Frances McDormand, in particular, sounds a LOT like the folks I grew up with in Southern Ontario. Drop Dead Gorgeous, same thing -- moreso with Kirsten Dunst, Allison Janney, and Ellen Barkin than the rest of the cast.
The DVD's interesting, but don't go too far out of your way for it. :) Better to watch some episodes of Canadian TV set in Canada -- Corner Gas would be perfect.
Add in a copy of the Oxford CED, and a good Canadian cookbook (uh... I'll get back to you on that), and you're set! :D
I remember watching the English Patient, and being struck by how different one of the nurses sounded. Then I realized she was the only one of the supposed Canadians with an actual Canadian accent. :)
I've never seen it, but you know, I think it might bug me that only one had an accent... unless they were trying to do something with regional accents, or "Canadian Dainty," I guess.

Though now I'm craving a Caesar and a butter tart, for lunch.
