Dilate

Maybe I am missing something terribly obvious, but in Ani's song - Dilate - what exactly does she mean when using that word? In what context is it used? It's something that has always bugged me as the song is one of her best performances and therefore I listen to it often, but what does she mean when she sings -

I'll see you when I Dilate ...

Lyrics here

True - most of the song is about living in dark strange places like hotel rooms. "I learn every room long enough to make it to the door"

and "i wake up in the night
in some big hotel bed
my hands grope for the light
my hands grope for my head"

It is definately about adjusting to a situation and being able to get around, but just.

:)

That website - http://www.danah.org/Ani/ is all her lyrics - created by a woman doing social psych studies about media/culture and young people.

I have to say I disagree with xiayu . I think all of Ani's songs can be interpreted many different ways, because of the crafty ways she uses words. I think you can most certainly get a clear message taking the words at a black and white face value, but i believe she is so crafty with her words on purpose.

i also think that when she says i see you and i dilate, she means that she is opening up to the person in that she becomes vulnerable, probably automatically since our eyes dilate automatically.
