Tales of Terror from Domestic Fruit

Aug 05, 2009 23:00

So... in more tales of the bizarre, I bought bananas on Sunday night. Woke up yesterday to them being covered by gnats. I have disposed of the fruit immediately, but these nasty buggers persist. Any ideas on ridding myself of these guys?

rfc, bugs

OK, I progress.

Never had this kind of problem before in any of my other apartments. I will also be avoiding fruits that don't like the fridge until further notice,

Oh, I forgot all about the soap trap. Good call.

*looks horrified at the idea of any poor vac needing to suck up live bugs*

1) Clean entire area where fruit was, removing sweet, fruit, and liquid items from all surfaces.
2) Use a peppermint castile soap to clean said surfaces, or a tbsp of bleach in a half gallon of water for the same.
3) Turn on a fan that blow *out* and let it run and run and run.

In addition to previous suggestions, pour boiling water down your kitchen sink drain. Sometimes they breed in the trap.

Borrow my kitten for a week. Chasing down and eating bugs is the only thing he's good for.

(all the other advice is good, too)

Given the fact that I love kittens and that I find cats highly addictive (as evidence I have 2 already), that may not be the best advice. :) You may never see him again.
