Have been rereading the "Annals of Beleriand" or "Grey Annals" (The War of the Jewels, HoME XI), which, along with the "Annals of Aman" (Morgoth's Ring, HoME X), is more-or-less the last writing Tolkien did on the majority of the Silmarillion (it ends half way through the Tale of Turin). I am trying to write snarky Fingon-rescues-Maedhros-from-Thangorodrim, and for the most part it's working. But I can't make it all snarky. Maedhros is, at this point, very damaged, and honestly wishes to die. Fingon loves him. That's not something I can mock ( Read more... )

In other news, I think I should be kinder to C.S. Lewis. I am not sure I will ever cease to be angry at him, however blameless he might be in the matter, but I do think perhaps I should try to forgive him.
