"Sucks" is probably a bit strong, but college football is very "meh" for me.

You live in Texas! Root for Texas!

(However, please don't use the same logic in telling me that I should root for the Cowboys over my hometown Redskins, because I will stick my fingers in my ears and say "La la la la la, I can't hear you!")

I'm afraid that learning that Alabama is 0 for 4 in bowl games against Texas has inclined me to cling to my roots.

ROLL TIDE!!!

At first I was going to suggest rooting for the Crimson Tide in honor of my being one quarter Alabaman.

But after much careful consideration and thoughtful analysis, I've come to the conclusion that you should root for Texas, because Bama sounds like a Harmonian.

Your reasoning is deep and powerful!

My grandmother grew up in Selma, but she married a New Englander and moved there, so I have never been to Alabama. And since she was an only child (read: none of her three older siblings lived to see their fourth birthday) we didn't have any family there we were in touch with. I should probably visit someday, I really don't know much about it.

I really don't know much about it.

Well, it's a land of moonlight and magnolias ...

and -- according to Lynyrd Skynyrd, anyway -- the skies are blue.

Go figure!
