Y HALO THAR HARY

I haven't posted my review of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows yet (unless you think "ZOMG BEST BOOK EVA!!!" is a sufficient review), even though I've read it and re-read it, and gotten well into my post-new-canon read-through of the previous books not to mention devouring all the fanfiction I can findI think I've been quiet up to now because I ( Read more... )

I quite enjoyed this and wonder how you would have addressed that, if nothing else, the dreadful epilogue would have meant it couldn't possibly have been the real book ;)

I'm sad that I can't remember at all what I was planning to write about the epilogue.

But how excited would we have been if we'd known about The Cursed Child?!?

I'm glad you (finally) posted this. I hate going back and realizing that I never got around to posting my memories or reactions to this or that - both here and now on Facebook. You can never get back that initial thought process and there are so many times that I wish I hadn't been so lazy or thought I'd have time "later" to do it.

I like your take on Jo's character developments and love that you mention her flaws too. It makes her so much more relatable and is why we do love her.

I'm re-reading the series after a pretty long time period away from it. I've finished the first two books and I'm amazed at how good they are--how rich, how complex, how mesmerizing. And, yes, with adorable flaws.

I've been watching the movies at the end of each book and they're better than I remembered as well. I'm still bothered by various things (giving everyone's lines to Hermione, inexplicable Hagrid-love) but the impressive parts, especially the sets, props, costumes, etc. and the acting of young Daniel Radcliffe are lovely.

And yeah, I sure do wish I'd finished this post, or at least written more of it.

Also, now that I've reminded myself that the "Prince's Tale" chapter is in book 7, not book 6, maybe it is my favorite after all!

Also the life and lies of Albus Dumbledore!!

Yeah, probably my favorite.

I love how much you loved DH! I loved it too, though a lot of people didn't.

Mopsus, Mopsy,

Sorry... what? I don't follow. (Although I probably would've known just what/who you meant in 2007!) Was she the old lady JKR was going to have Sirius live with or something?

s (who knew how much of the fandom's happiness depended on The Character Who Does Magic Late in Life?!)

I do love how fandom balked when JKR had clearly changed her mind about something. What's ironic is that for people who don't like her talking about the universe now because it ruins their vision.. that's the perfect "out." JKR was always changing her mind. Most writers do. We just had to wait until she had it down on paper.

this is J.K. Rowling we're talking about. She is as she has always been - brilliant, sloppy, and secretive, her inventive genius outstripping her dutiful attempts to keep all her details straight.

I love it. This is so true.

I also had forgotten who Mopsy was but you're right, she was the old lady who was going to take in dog!Sirius. Mopsus was going to be a blind Seer who was originally going to make the prophecy instead of Trelawney.

My favorite living writer Lois Bujold says "I always reserve the right to have A Better Idea." And, of course, some things just don't work out like you planned them.

JKR once said she was done writing about the wizarding world. I'm glad she changed her mind on that one!

I've been away from livejournal for a few months, and I just logged in and saw about a dozen "new" Angua posts. Eeee!

For some reason I didn't love DH as much as some of the others when I first read it - it was a complicated sort of book, and I missed the structure of the Hogwarts school year. Then I did a series re-read about a year or two ago, and now it's in my top two. I think HBP is my overall favourite, but The Forest Again + the Kings Cross chapters are my favourite scenes.

The point about realistic human emotions shown through the filter of grand, exaggerated drama is really true, and I think is a huge point in favour of a lot of children stories, like Teen Titans and Steven Universe.

Hmm, maybe I need another HP read-through. :)
