Ha, I knew someone would pick up on that. I smoke, nasty habit, I know. Dropped a lit cigarette on the laptop key board and didn't realize it until it had burned down through the keys and on to the innards. I fully realize that this whole situation comes down to my own dangerous stupidity. Doesn't mean I wasn't going bonkers when it decided to give up the ghost ;-)

/o\ ! ::goes and finds passport e-drive. backs up all doc files. and some graphics files::

My Baby was elderly when I started BB in 2011, but she was game. Until she wouldn't boot, and hung, and took forever to load pages, and became somewhat iffy and unreliable, and finally refused entirely to boot.

My husband generously offered the loan of his new Toshiba, and I was able to reconstruct my BB files from--of all things--emails to and from my beta. My email files are hosted on the service's server rather than my hard drive, thank goodness, and I was able to salvage the files and finish the fic on time.

Tosh is a lovely laptop, but I replaced my own, and was dilligent for a while at backing up. NSM lately. I should go do that.

I'm sorry about your machine, poor Old Man. I wish you fantastic luck in your ebay quest.
