This is my mental picture, see if you can visualize it as well. You arrive at my doorstep wearing a shirt that has rainbow lettering reading “RECRUIT.” It’s pouring outside. Your baggy bondage pants are soaked. My parents see your outfit and think you’re a freak. You know it was true. Is this my parents being judgmental? Yes, obviously. But, there is something else going on in this scene. Here we have one Nina Kester wearing a prominent badge of her sexuality! And so proudly! And shouldn’t she be proud of her sexuality? Yes, she should. But there is nothing positive that can come of making a personality out of one’s sexuality or sexual orientation. Do straight people build entire personalities and personas based on their straightness? No, and if they do, they’re considered idiots (i.e. male chauvinists, gay-bashers, et cetera). If gay people build entire personalities out of their gayness, it is only marginally better (because generally the element of hate is removed).
