But anyway, I love the way you flesh out Anne's character here, especially her naivety when it comes to sex, and her denial in the end, which seems to mirror Clive's own delusions. I also like the little details about upper-class life -- the story of her going abroad with a chaperone and meeting Clive reminds me a little of A Room With A View, which I think is an awesome bit of intertextuality (although I don't know if this was your intention, of course).

Well, I was channeling "A Room with a View" a bit when I wrote that part, copying I might have called it but "Intertextuality" is such a great word! Yes, I'll have that. It was intertextual! :-)
Of course, poor Clive and Anne's version is but a pale and bloodless imitation of the passionate awakening of Lucy and George!

Delightful. Insightful. Lovely voice. Engaging stories. Both this and Kitty. I don't know if this is your voice in writing contemporary fiction, or if you are emulating Forster, but it's spot on to this American ear.
