I no longer utter, ever, a word about liking a show on TV. Because the moment I start liking something itnelligent and complex, they freaking AXE it. The latest victim is "Smash", a show that is as brimming with talent as anything I've seen on TV, like, EVER, probably - a show with a strong story arc, excellent acting, amazing musical numbers, a ( Read more... )

I liked Smash a lot, too.

Another show that was axed much too soon was "Wonderfalls," a fantasy about a slacker (a unmotivated retail clerk with a degree in philosophy from an ivy league school) who had inanimate objects start talking to her suddenly. It was a Tim Minear show which really shone in the unaired episodes (the whole 13 are available on DVD). It had a definite story arc with this character wondering why these things are suddenly talking to her and asking her to do inexplicable things. Of course, her friends and family think she's gone insane. And klepto. I did not like the protagonist in the first few episodes - her attitude is so poor - but she evolves and really grew on me.

We have Wonderfalls on DVD and also loved the show. Just add it to the list of the ones I mention in the post as too-early-demised. I'm sure there are others which I've forgotten. There was one show which dealt with a bunch of young misfit doctors in the jungle - the title was "Off The [Something]" - I forget off teh what - map? beatn path? I can't even remember now - but one of the stars of that was the actress who was the WOnderfalls main character and she was good in this too - and it vanished, also, without trace.
