It's a strange day, all right. Being something of a misanthrope, I tend to avoid the parades (the city one tends to attract tourists, ex-pats, and people up from the country), but there's certainly a weird exuberance to it all.

(It's not fun to have to walk through the city early the morning after, though. Colouring the beer green is wrong for any number of reasons.)

A couple of notes:
I believe the highest percentage of redheads is in Highland Scotland.

I've read that St. Patrick's Day became a major holiday first in the US, and used to be a minor one in Ireland.
