Jul 19, 2010 13:45

The first time I tripped over the name of Matt Ruff, he was... just a name. I had heard interesting things about the book "Fool on the Hill", and when I finally opened it up it was with curiosity, and a certain set of expectations.

He blew them all away.

I am particularly fond of:

"Sewer, Gas and Electric (The Public Works Trilogy)"

If only because it isn't a trilogy. Read it -- you'll see what I mean. It's an utterly madcap novel; laugh out loud funny and beautifully structured.

But that's just my favourite. Really the books are all wonderful. I own them all, every one, and I am very pleased indeed to have made my small contribution to Matt's royalty statements.

Oh, I read "Sewer Gas Electric". I own it. I own ALL of Matt's books. [grin]

Happy to meet a fellow fan. And likewise, re. the royalty statements...

Since you are screening your comments, you probably want to keep this one private -- I'm not a new acquaintance; we've known each other (casually) for 20 years or so. I'm Alan Robson, an old New Zealand fan that you've chatted with at various NZ conventions over the years.

I'm so pleased that things are working out so well for you.

Very best wishes.

Oh, I remember now... Set This House In Order is on my bookshelf because you recommended it to me! How could I forget?

It was a stunning recommendation. I have tried to pass the good news along.

Thank you for the original recommendation, and for the reminder that I need to hunt down and devour the rest of these novels. (And thank you matt_ruff for writing them!)
