It just became official, today

I've turned to the dark side. The Dean has approved me switching to a major in English. Let loose the hellhounds. I knew I never should have taken Pop Fiction and Lit of the '80's over the summer. But how could you not? Yeah!

So are you still having a bunch of fun with this?

Entirely. It's also a lot of work but rewarding work. I took the classes this summer because I knew I needed a lot more work on my writing. The second one was with the Dept. Chair, and not books I would have read on my own, or enjoyed. (And I did well, ideas based mainly, I think. He didn't say. But I know my grasp of MLA standards, and being able to write good concise arguments, is still very formative.)

I just entirely loved the experience. I am not sure where this will all end up, mind you. For the MAT it actually shortens time in school because I minored in English before, and have a lot of transfer in credit. I want to take next semester to think about it, at least. I am taking three English Lit classes and Art of Renaissance Italy. That should be a good test.

Thank you. This was the topic of our first class in English Criticism.. what do you actually do with the degree?

Oh, the ever-so-shiny lure of Lit classes. The one that got me was "17th Century Metaphysical Poets." :~) Welcome to the dark side!

Oh welcome! Please listen carefully to the bits about English Majors on Prairie Home Companion, and be prepared to starve...but to have a great time in the process.

Your writing is so great and your insights so excellent that I'm sure you'll do really well. But what about the art? Hate to think of that talent not being used as well...

It's funny but a sketch from PHC (two English lovers in line at a grocery store check out line) was part of our intro to the English Crit class.

I am not sketching right now, aside from something I did in class notes in Native American Lit. (That's always been based on need, people crossing my path, various things. It makes light. The drawing came before anything, and is still the ground you leap off and return to.) I am finishing up a gold wirework bracelet "Lives of Artists", amber, Swaroski crystals, tiger's eye, irridescant beads, and a bead I've forgottten the name of, and a lot of gold. Looking towards a show the first week of October. There will need to be a new sketch to go with that. I think it's at the perculating stage. (hugs)

Yay! Looking forward to that, and to hearing about the lives of the English majors as you go on. Wish I could go back and do it all over, I must say.

(hug) I just hope I can do justice to it all. The readings are enormously challenging, the teachers brilliant, and struggling. Everyone else in my classes, are so young. It's a weird space to try to walk. And, amazing.
