EVERY TIME AN ACTOR SAYS "I DON'T BELIEVE IN SHAKESPEARE" SOME WHERE A LOST PLAY FALLS DOWN DEAD.

THE DOUBLE FALSEHOOD SO DOES NOT COUNT.

HOW EVEN CAN HE. I truly struggle with loving his Richard as much as I do (i.e. it is my favourite Shakespearean performance by ANY MALE ACTOR) and yet knowing he holds Those Views. And he certainly doesn't have the excuse of being poorly educated. Bad show, I say.
I blame my spelling!fail on EXCESS EMOTION.

BUT. THEN HE HAS SUCH STUPID IDEAS ABOUT AUTHORSHIP. I MEAN, WE MIGHT EXPECT IT FROM MARK RYLANCE, WHO IS CLEARLY FROM A DIFFERENT PLANET, BUT NOT JACOBI.
I don't feel that there's any problem with loving his Richard, or his astonishing King Lear, but it is, nevertheless, very sad when people think stupid things. And I really don't understand how actors, especially, can be antistratfordians. I mean, the plays are clearly steeped in knowledge of the theater both as profession and as physical space, and that is not something one could say of Oxford.
(I also don't know why people have latched onto Edward de Vere as supposed author; he was by all accounts a horrible person, and demonstrably a crummy poet.)

And I KNOW, what on earth is the attraction of E. de Vere? It's so odd.

commodorified and I came up with a similar theory a while back, except in our version Oxford hired Shakespeare (who was, at the time, young and strapped for cash) to write some poetry he could pass off as his because writing poetry was the Done Thing. It's not very good because Shakespeare did a half-assed job, figuring it was good enough for an earl. ;)
