Day #17: Your favorite speech

I talked about Richard II's prison soliloquy on both Day 1 and Day 2, so I think I will do the lazy thing again and post performances of it. Even though I have never seen one that completely nails it, these are all really good, so perhaps if we put them into some kind of hypothetical dramatic centrifuge we would get

Re the dramatic centrifuge, friend and I wanted to recast Derek Jacobi in all the major roles. Young Derek as Hamlet, older Derek as Claudius, and his BBC Richard II as Ophelia.

Left out a bit. I meant to say, after seeing Branagh's four hour Hamlet, we wanted to recast.

The prison speech was said 3 times in the 2000 RSC production - once at the beginning, again while Richard is in prison and at the end by Henry.

You know that Jacobi!Richard simply IS Richard to me - so that was A GOOD START, but I do like the others too. OH RICHARD, WHY SO HEARTBREAKING AND SO AWESOME.
