[drabbles] for reconditarmonia

May 06, 2009 17:52

Title: And I'll Climb the Tree
Fandom: Shakespeare, historical RPF
Character(s)/Pairing(s): Will Shakespeare, Richard Burbage
Rating: G
Word Count: 140 -- I am kind of cheating and using the weird shakespeare140 definition of a drabble.
Warning: Contains dreadful anachronism.
Summary: Shakespeare wrote a shiny new play. Burbage is not keen.
Notes: For reconditarmonia. I'm not giving her prompt because it totally telegraphs the punchline. The title is a paleolithic geek reference.

"Come on, Dick," Will said, over a pot of ale in the Mermaid Tavern. "There's a great part for you in it! And the boys will love it. They'll get to wear breeches."

"I don't know, Will," Richard Burbage grumbled. "It's great, but it looks awfully hard to stage."

"What's wrong with it?" said Will. "It's not like it will be any more difficult than Henry VI, and that was a smash hit. If I do say so myself..."

"...and I do," they finished together.

"Anyway," Dick said. "The battles are all well and good, but what about this scene in the caves?"

"The mines," Will corrects him.

"Whatever. Anyway, you want a great devilish beast with wings to pull the wizard off a cliff! How in hell are we going to do that, Will?"

"I thought we could use the trapdoor," Will shrugged.
