Fascinating. It's weird how much the tone reminds me of the "fire and fleet and candlelight" dirge, even though what it's saying is pretty much the exact opposite.

I love your choices for National Poetry Month.

People used to like metonymy better than they do now!

Actually, I checked this out and one penny in 1400 is the equivalent of $2.50 USD today. For what that's worth.
