also, it has John McEnery in it, like all productions ought to.

I am watching (some of) the Fiona Shaw Richard II right now, in order to figure out which bits of it I want to show for tomorrow's class on Act II. I hadn't seen it in years (mostly because my tape was on loan for ages). Either it is much better than I remember, or I'm just not watching the bits that annoyed me most the first time. Probably it is ( Read more... )

a mafioso kiss of death

OMG. I WANT TO SEE THAT.

Even more reason to try and Track Down a tape somewhere in the Oxford libraries...

ALSO. Stephen Fry!Bushy is just too strange to contemplate. Does not compute.

He's not really Stephen Fry, he just looks like him, only with eighties hair. And a not-extremely-convincing English accent (the actor is Welsh and also plays Glendower and Fluellen in the same tetralogy).

But yes, I think you would appreciate this production. It is -- okay, well, basically, Fiona Shaw and Richard Bremmer play Richard and Henry as exes. Who are totally not over each other. Although Shaw describes the relationship in interviews as a close familial one, that is, um, not at all what it looks like.

Aha. I was going to say, surely Stephen Fry would not look as though he were hitting on a woman.

Drunk, I can believe.

Hee. Of course the character he was not actually playing is one-third of the Not-At-All-Ambiguously Gay Trio and would probably not hit on a woman either. ;)

Is Stephen Fry ever *not* wearing a hilarious Regency tie, even if only metaphorically?

Hee.

I think you (as our resident minion-enthusiast) would approve of the actors in the Shaw RII. And Julian Rhind-Tutt's ridiculously adorable Aumerle. Who does not wear pink (lucky for him he is a redhead).

I like being a resident minion-enthusiast. How's the pay?

I keep meaning to buy an s-video cable, and then I will see if I can digitize my tape.
