We went to one of the big anniversary festivals at Cropredy. (30th I think) and the main Saturday evening set was a history of Fairport, where the real performers came on as they got to the point where they became involved. When they got to Sandy's death they switched the stage lights off and played her singing this song. It was haunting and heartbreaking.
By the end of the evening they had virtually everyone who had ever been in Fairport and was still alive singing "Meet on the Ledge". Magic.
It truly was. We've been to three or four of them over the years - Cropredy is about forty minutes away. It's a lovely, family-friendly, safe-feeling festival, with a little jazz and blues and a lot of folk and folk-rock. Fairport themselves do about three hours on the Saturday evening, and all sorts of friends and former members come along. It's pretty much the only place Dave Swarbrick still plays amplified music, because of his hearing problems, and they always "end" with Matty Groves/Hexhamshire Lass. "Meet on the Ledge" is always the very final final encore. It's quite something to be in a field with twenty thousand people all singing the song so loud you can hardly hear the band.
We didn't go this year because the rain was atrocious. I feel the need to go again soon. One day when you're not so impoversihed you must come to stay in August and we can go together.

Oh my god, it really *was*. I was there and nearly drowned. They did a tribute to Sandy this year as well though - amongst other guest appearances Robert Plant sang The Battle of Evermore. Also they played Sandy singing The Quiet Joys of Brotherhood which was really moving.
