2008: not a good year for actors

I must admit, I was never a huge fan of Charlton Heston (even setting aside his politics) -- but I always did love his performance as the Player King in Branagh's Hamlet, an instance in which Branagh's tendency towards gimmicky casting really, really paid off. So here it is; enjoy.

Oh, yes!! I had completely forgotten about that.

I've been so looking forward to a slew of "cold, dead hands" jokes that just has not materialized. Blogosphere, just what are you good for?!

Oh, there have been. At Metaquotes if nothing else, but they are there, I promise.

(this is especially funny for me as my Academic Team, which has the abbreviation NRA for N---- R------- A Team, has as its motto "You can take our buzzers from our cold, dead hands!")

Shakesville has had, like, three posts in a row that started with them...

::checks::

One, to be fair.

Still, that one also includes Soylent Green, Ten Commandments, and Planet of the Apes jokes. So, bonus.

Ben Hur and The Agony and the Ecstacy are two of my favorite movies.

I remember when I saw that, I thought "Charlton Heston can act? Wow. He's really good!" It was also the first time I had ever been able to really make sense of that scene.

Thanks for the memories, Chuck Heston, sir.

Oh yes. That film was so full of showy casting (random John Gielgud WTF?!) and not all of the choices worked, but this one did. I think partly because you don't really expect Heston to be quite that good. :D
