What's the difference between nordic skis and touring skis, and which ones do we want if we just want to go cross country skiing at a local golf club? There are a few trails there, but it's also possible we'll be the first ones going in some direction

I took Ben last year - he was 4. We only went once though and he was a terrible chicken, afraid of the tiniest slope. This year will hopefully be better. Esther also started when she was 4 or 5, she enjoys it quite a bit. You can buy skis at rental places at the end of the season, or try craigslist. The new set cost about $200, second hand at rental places are half that. Some rental places have sleds where you put a child too young to ski and tow it behind you. Very convenient. Could be for older kids though, not sure.

Я стала на лыжи в 3 года, меня папа поставил, причем на горе. Я сразу поехала, мне было все равно с горы или по плоскости ехать, главное, чтоб без палок, к ним меня приучили годам к 6.

на горе немного по другому :). Гошка в прошлом году на горе катался -- вот так без палок вниз, учился тормозить.

М. пробовал в прошлом году (сначал просто во дворе, потом уже в лесу) и сегодня. По лыжне и без палок шел сам довольно долго. С палками ему пока совсем трудно координировать.

да, палки по-моему детям не дают лет до восьми-десяти. Надо будет попробовать, спасибо.
