Grandma's wisdom

Every year Igor's grandma sends us packages full of small presents and food -- at least once, more often two or three times: for Igor's birthday, for one of kid's birthdays, for New Years. And every year we tell her that we don't need them -- we have plenty of food here in Boston, and it's really rather silly of her to send it to us,

You are lucky that Igor's grandmother remembers all the important events in your kids' lives. Some of my so-called close relatives rarely remember my birthday, let alone my son's birthday. In fact, this year I was accosted for not calling THEM so that they congratulate my son for turning 2. On the other hand, our parents spoil David rotten. He has more clothes and toys to fill several daycares.

Igor's grandma is more like a parental figure in his life than a grandparent. She raised him.

Then again, my grandparents certainly remember all the dates in my kids' lives and spoil them rotten :)

Yeah, I only have one concrete memory of my paternal g-grandparents - candy and spanish peanuts that they used to bring to us every time we saw them (which wasn't often)

смешно, а меня вот только твой комментарий заставил понять, что, например, у меня самое большое воспоминание про сестру моей прабабушки -- бабушку Веру -- именно то, что она всегда приносила хоть какие-то конфеты мне.

I think it's cute that she does it. My husband's parents also give us the most random gifts (for instance, this new year they gave my husband slippers and a packet of Trail Mix, while the kids got weird polyester "sportivnye kostumy", straight from the 80s... But I still think it's cute and very nice of them to give us anything. It's the thought that counts!
