it's really easy... cut up about 4-5 onions. sweat them in butter, bay leaf, thyme *if you like that stuff - i don't*, a couple bay leaves until they brown (this will usually take about 30 minutes). towards the end, add salt. then you add a can of consume soup or more if you want it really soupy. add some parsley *if you like that stuff - which i do!* salt and pepper to taste (but be careful not to over salt it) cut rounds of french bread and brush with olive oil....broil until brown. put the rounds on the soup, grate swiss cheese, and broil until brown. voila!
