Rating: PG
Pairing(s): Stark/Allison, a hint of Carter/Allison
Summary: Five arguments that Stark and Allison have.
Warning: Some speculation for future seasons.
Author's Notes: This was written for
bluebanrigh, who
requested - you guessed it - five arguments between Stark and Allison. :D Enjoy!
1. Carter
"Why do you keep holding a grudge against Carter," Allison demands in exasperation.
He makes you smile. I used to do that.
He doesn't say it though, just rolls his eyes and looks down at the files in front of him. "Oh, because he has a significant problem in attracting trouble," he says nonchalantly.
He can almost hear her grinding her teeth. "Or maybe," she replies deliberately, "you just can't stand the fact that he's saved our lives. Again." She doesn't wait for him to say anything, just storms out.
He doesn't know how a picture of their wedding appeared on his screen afterwards.
2. Section Five
"Nathan," she says, as though explaining something to a stubborn child, "Those protocols were put into place for a reason. The artifact, is extremely dangerous. We can't take chances."
"But how are we supposed to discover just *what* it is if we don't take chances," Nathan fires back. "Science is synonymous with risk, Allison."
She cuts him off. "No. I mean it. I won't risk the lives of everyone here just to satisfy your curiosity!"
He doesn't speak to her for the next two days, hating that she's right. Still, his thoughts are filled with thoughts of that artifact.
He has to know.
3. Eureka
"Blue."
"Red."
"Blue would look better! It matches better!" She maintains stubbornly.
"I thought the purpose of this mural was to catch people's attention? Red works to that much better."
"Um," Carter intervenes hesitantly, "I agree with Stark, as strange as that sounds. This kind of needs to stand out."
"Really?" Allison asks in surprise. "You agree with him?"
The sheriff looks vageuly embarrassed. "Well, the artists have already started and they wanted to use red. How do you tell ten-year-old artistic geniuses no on something like that?"
Nathan smirks for the better part of an hour, willing to believe that, the victory is his.
4. Politics
"I cannot believe I just heard you say that," Allison shouts. "Did you NOT learn from what happened the last time you insulted a U.S. Senator?!"
"Allie," he says soothingly, "Relax! It's not like Wilder's ever going to find out. He doesn't have anywhere near the right clearance to be involved in any of Eur-"
Allison cuts him off, turning on the television in his office, her expression still thunderous.
"... and as reported earlier, Senator George Wilder of Ohio was appointed to the Governmental Appropriations Committee..."
He really, really hates it when she's right. He does have a tendency to dig his own grave.
5. Endings
She's conscious, but unable to speak. This is his fault. His fault Section Five was breached, his fault that Beverly got away. His fault that Eureka is in ruins, almost everyone dead.
His fault she's dying.
She's staring at him, her eyes surprisingly clear. She grasps a pen and scribbles on a pad of paper.
STOP. NOT YOUR FAULT. COULDN'T HAVE KNOWN.
He can't help but smile slightly and shake his head. "You know me," he murmurs.
She writes again.
YES. NOT YOUR FAULT.
Somehow, even if she writes it over and over again until she closes her eyes for the last time, Nathan doesn't think this is an argument she'll win.
