Nero's best moment was the "Hi Christopher, I'm Nero" and the rest... meh. However much of the rest of the movie was awesome enough to compensate.

Ooh, yes, there was that moment too! I'd forgotten that. :) It was a decent moment, Nero being all, "Hey non-entity. Your successor around? Because people are going to remember him a lot more than they remember you." I did giggle a bit over that.

Oh, and forgot Paul McGillion's 30-second appearance too! Lovely moment, there. Nice to see his adorable face. :D

Would now be a good time to promote the nuTrek mccoy_chapel pairing? ;)

Oh yeah, that battle sequence (and heck, all the others) were fricking amazing!! And George Kirk was awesome in his whole 'Suicide Commando' trip with the Kelvin. Dude, that was one BAMF right there. Shows where Jimmy got it. ;)

Girl, I loved this movie like a crazy, burning thing. I think I saw it three times in the theater? I took my mom to see it, too, because she's the reason I watched all those reruns of TOS to begin with, as a little girl. She loved it, and she's a hardcore TOS fan. I think they got so much of the spirit of the original right, and the presence of the original actors--the heart of it all, if you will.

Anyway, I loved it, every lens flaring moment of it, and cannot wait to see the next one! \o/ So cute to relive it all through someone else's enthusiasm!

Heh, my parents were both big Star Trek fans too. They got me into is as a little kid, though I just loved the ship then. It wasn't until recently that I started watching the TOS, and I've liked a lot of what I've seen so far. The cheese factor is off the scale, but hey, still awesome. ;)

The movie is a great update of TOS, I think. You still feel the presence of the original show, and how it all worked, and yet it also has a fresh, new perspective on it. Because, seriously, the Spock-Kirk tension? SO INCREDIBLY AWESOME IDEK! We didn't get too much of that back in the day, and not this well-thought-out. And I loved it. :D

Sixth: They killed Lady Amanda!

That's my main problem with the movie (aside from the gaping plot holes, but it's Trek, so whatever): All the major Trek canon women but Uhura got fridged hard. Or they were all motivation for the men. Screw that. (On the plus side, Reboot Trek femslashers have taken quite a shine to Uhura/Gaila. With very good reason!)

Then, there's the original Spock. This is a man with a huge treasure trove of knowledge in his head. He knows a great deal about the many races the Federation will encounter over the next century -- the Dominion, the Borg. THE BORG! There is the potential to possibly prevent what happens at Wolf Three-Five-Nine, or at least prevent it from being such an enormous massacre. Really, this should be explored! The consequences of the meddling with the time line should have more attention devoted to them!I would bet dollars to doughnuts (that is the silliest phrase ever) that Spock Prime won't say a word so as to meddle with the timeline as little as possible. The consequences of messing ( ... )

Yeah, that was something I'd noticed. Was Chapel even there? Because I didn't notice her. :( I also wish we could have gotten some more of Winona Kirk, because from the sound of it, she continued with her career after George Kirk's death, which makes me happy (though, downside: the boys were obviously left with a less than good caregiver in Frank -- I watched some of the deleted scenes today).

Perhaps the ladies will get a chance to do more in the next film? *hopeful*

I would bet dollars to doughnuts (that is the silliest phrase ever) that Spock Prime won't say a word so as to meddle with the timeline as little as possible. The consequences of messing with the timeline are made well and truly evident in far too many eps of Trek for me to believe otherwise. So if Abrams chucks that bit of characterization out the window, I'm going to be severely cranky with him. That's a good point, and Spock probably would go that route. Bad enough that he's still there, so he probably would be incredibly tight lipped about the century to come. Still ( ... )

Probably not. It seems like it's very much a return to the days of the old school boy fest.
