Zoë leaned back against the wall of Pilar’s room, her laptop settled on her lap. Pilar was hunched over her own laptop at her desk, and Zoë could see the college website her friend was peering at - Columbia.
“Doesn’t your mom want you to go to Yale?” she asked.
Pilar snorted. “Mom can want it all she wants. I’d sooner go to Princeton than Yale.”
Zoë raised an eyebrow, wondering just what was wrong with Princeton, but just shrugged. Pilar turned to her. “Besides, isn’t your mom bombarding you with advice too?”
Zoë sighed and nodded. It was true. She and her mom always emailed each other fairly often, but lately those emails had been filled with her mom singing the praises of various psychology programs and such, including the program at Berkley. Zoë had yet to break it to her that she wanted to go into medicine.
She just hoped the news would inspire her mother to make another unannounced trip to Eureka. Things were complicated enough right now, with Dad and Tess… getting closer while Allison was clearly still the elephant in the room that neither of them wanted to mention. Adding her mother to the mess would just make it worse.
Zoë still wasn’t sure how she felt about her dad and Tess, but she did her level best to stay out of the way. She’d be off to college next fall - wherever that turned out to be - so she couldn’t really blame her dad for panicking a little over being alone in the bunker with just S.A.R.A.H. for company. Still, Zoë just had a bad feeling about the whole thing. She wondered if Tess really was aware that she was ultimately going to have to share Dad with Allison, because if Allison ever called him for help, he’d jump through hoops to do it without hesitating.
Her email notification pinged, catching Zoë’s attention. Clicking into her email, she figured it was probably a response from her mother. However, once the inbox opened, Zoë grinned.
RE: College Advice?
Zoë opened the email.
Zoë,
I’d be happy to help.
Come by tomorrow around 10 a.m. We can talk.
Allison
P.S. Jenna says hello and can’t wait to see you. ;)
Zoë laughed.
“What’s so funny?” Pilar asked.
She grinned at her friend. “Nothing. I just think I found a great source of advice on the whole college thing.”
