008. smiles

I push my hair over my right shoulder, annoyed by its unruly nature today, and try once again to focus on the document in front of me. I don't remember the police academy preparing me for doing yearly expense accounting.

"Kelly?" I hear Sabrina's voice crack. I look up to her, sitting behind Bosley's desk, eyes narrowed in curiosity. "Is that a hickey on your neck?"

I almost let out a gasp as I remember an encounter with Kris earlier in the hallway. We were alone, a rare moment at work. After exchanging a few whispered words of love, she pushed me against the wall, kissing me once on the lips before moving to my neck. Within seconds, she had pulled herself off of me, winked at me, and left me alone, breathing labored.

"Kelly?" Sabrina brings me out of my thoughts.

"Oh, no. It's, uh, a- a bruise." I stumble, mentally cursing myself. She looks at me, her eyebrows raised, and smiles, clearly not believing me.

"If that's your story." She says, her smile widening, and looks back to her work on the desk.

I glance to my right to my lover and note the smirk on her face, her eyes glued to the papers in her lap, avoiding my stare like the plague. I look back to Sabrina, checking that she's not paying attention, then reach over and pinch Kris on the thigh.

"Hey!" She calls out in surprise, before she realizes what she's doing. Sabrina looks up at us both.

"What?" She asks Kris, looking back and forth between us.

"Hey," her voice back in its normal range, "hey, is anybody else hungry? I could stand some lunch." While Sabrina glances at her watch, I wink at Kris, giving her a smirk. She gives me an evil smile, and I know she's already planning to get back at me later.

"Yeah, I guess I could go for something to eat," I hear from Sabrina.
