Spoilers: 4.06: Fallen Angel. Probably would be handy if you remember the episode before you read.
I knock for a third time on the door to her temporary apartment. I know she's here; her car's parked just outside. Giving out a sigh, I try knocking once more. But nothing, no sound from the other side of the door acknowledging my presence. I open my purse and pull out the lock pick set I've used so many times before. I have to know that she's okay.
I had called her the night before, after telling her about seeing Jill with Damien Roth. She lied, telling me she was alright, that she was going to check on her sister the next day. I haven't heard from her since then, instead spending the morning worrying that perhaps Tiffany was right all along. Until now.
I open the door and take a cautious step inside, looking around for any sight of my favorite blonde. Her purse is on the coffee table, discarded shoes underneath it. I hear a noise from another room, the bedroom I think, and head towards it.
My hand grasps the doorknob when I hear it again. A sob. She's crying. Without a moment's hesitation, I open the door. My heart falls at the sight in front of me. She's in bed, her back towards me, body shaking with each cry. I waste no time in laying down behind her, wrapping an arm tightly around her waist and placing a kiss on the top of her head.
I stay silent knowing there's nothing I can do for her, no words I can say to make everything better. All I can do is hope that there's something else going on, that Jill is unaware of her new friend's penchant for stealing. Kris turns in my arms, burying her face in the crook of my neck. I can feel her tears on my skin.
"Oh, Kelly, it was awful." She whispers.
"You talked to Jill?" She nods, another sob escapes. "I'm sorry," I whisper, wondering exactly what happened between the two sisters.
"I'm so scared. He's gonna get her in serious trouble, Kel. I just know it." She pulls back from me a bit and wipes her face dry, then looks me in the eyes.
"Listen to me, sweetie, you know Jill. You know how smart she is. She won't let herself get into trouble." I reach out, wiping away a new tear. She nods, closing her eyes at my touch. "It's gonna be okay." I lean in, kissing her forehead, hoping that somehow my words would prove to be true.
