dead things

Can someone please explain to me so many peoples fear of dead people/animals? The message board i normally play on a girl is absolutely freaking out and swearing she wont be sleeping becuase she touched her dead hampster. My god, it can't hurt her! I would assume that it's a basic part of human nature to fear death- both one's one death, as a logical evolutionary response to instill a little more caution into the species and allow one, ideally, to survive and breed a little longer; and to dead things, because I'd think a lot of disease and whatnot would be quite easy to obtain from screwing with dead animals. That might not make that much sense in a modern context, but consider our ancestors: at some point they started hunting their own food, instead of simply scavenging off dead things they found around, and levels of disease probably dropped. People who were less wont to go munch on a corpse (one that they found lying around, not one they made themselves)- possibly caused by and/or causing, over time, a fear of dead things?- probably lived longer and reproduced more.

But then, here's me, talking out of my ass as usual. ^_^

yeah I kind of understand the whole fear of death thing but absolutely freaking out because you poked your dead hampster? that doesnt work with me.
