stuff I've been chewing over

Well, one of the many places I RP at - WantonWicked - is still down. Comcast is slow at updating the DNS records. So I thought, I'd take a few moments, minutes, an hour to write some things that have been on my mind and such.

Politics, Race, Sexism and the like )

politics, racism, city on a hill, mage the awakening, wanton wicked, sexism, in time of war, roleplaying

Anecdotal comment!

While traveling on business recently in the UK, the topic of our presidential election came up in nearly every conversation I had with the natives. And they almost to a person said essentially the same thing: "We want you to elect Obama but we don't think you have the nerve because you're a bunch of racist bastards." Paraphrased, of course, but that's what I inferred. I don't necessarily disagree. (We have nothing on the French, mind you, in the sport of institutionalized racism, but we should be doing much better than we are.)

I don't really follow the media. Most of my stuff comes out of Journals. Like Foreign Affairs and such. Thing is, a lot more people than we give credit for -like Bush-. They like him, for a lot of reasons that make no sense.

America though, is still fundamentally, discriminatory. McCain is a likable if flaming conservative. And yes, a lot of Americans - even if they don't wish to admit it - are that shallow.

Hence, my jaded-ness about it.

The smarter choice would have been to have Obama or Hilary attached as VP to another canidate. Then after a term in office have them run for president in their own right.

This would have given either of them the chance prove they can handle the White House to America with out forcing such a harsh and fast change. As it currently stands I'm off the belief that neither of them can win. I just don't see America as being ready.

As for RP, I tend to add to an rp post what needs to be said and done. I'm not one to offer up what my character is thinking as I don't see it as important for others to know. In my opinion it leads to metagaming.

So basically when I do forum RP's I stick to post that describe what I'm doing and relate what I'm saying. Sometimes it's long, normally it's not.

I'm there to RP not write a short fiction after all. But thats how I always viewed it and I used to rp on IRC alot where we didn't get as detailed in a single post as forum games do.

Politics
Probably. Though Hillary is too much of an Alpha to ever be VP. And then even if she was, we might run into another Ducacus situation. Remember him? His VP was a Woman. He still lost though - against BUSH 1.

RP
I don't really add thought either. Probably because I do a lot of Chat based gmaes that have character limits. There's a point where verbosity is just more. It's all about conciseness. I still RP more on a Chat Platform more than I do on a Forum.

I just need something to work off of. Not some *alsdabs* "Blah" end.
