Below comes from the journal of storylandqueen . I'm reposting it here because I agree with absolutely everything she says and quotes here.

We don't even have a dozen states that recognize gay marriage right now, but we're working it. Right now the senate is considering repealing 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell', so we are making progress, if slowly.

Where does Australia stand on the matter right now?

I'll probably have to come back and give you a more detailed answer, but I'm off to uni in about 5 minutes.

Off the top of my head, both major political parties oppose gay marriage, as well as right to have children by adoption, IVF, surrogacy etc. There's this thing called 'civil unions' which is not the same marriage, and that's legalised in a few States, I think. I did an assignment on gay rights and surrogacy last year and in NSW is it extremely difficult for a gay couple to legally seek a surrogate mother - in fact it's banned by legislation.

So yeah, it's... not that great here. :(

Okay, have a nice day at school. :)

That's so restrictive. :( We have civil unions, too, which doesn't give all the rights of a marriage, so I know what you're talking about. While it's something, it's still not really enough. I really don't understand the argument that gay couples shouldn't have children. I mean, I get that there wouldn't be a parental female (or male, depending) influence, but then what about children in single-parent homes? Should those parents lose their children simply because they're not married?
