More on religious freedom (and the burqa ban)

I never thought the Australian Constitution could elicit such an emotional response from me, but it does.

Just this Monday I wrote an entry about the contemplated burqa ban in Australia, and cited s 116 from the AC to refute the validity of such legislation. I have been extremely naive to think that you can interpret the crystal clear wording of ( Read more... )

As someone who knows next to nothing about the Constitution (or the legal system in general, really), I found this really fascinating (and, as you yourself said, a bit worrying). Thanks for linking me to this. :)

I still can't reconcile very well with the fact that freedom of religion is not absolute, even theoretically. :(
