This is just awesomely done, even to be so short. I really think that the "cost" of freedom for Neal is sometimes almost overlooked in the whole grief aspect, especially. He *had* to have been grieving, too, even if not for the same reason (obviously) as those who loved him. <3
Awww, poor Neal *hugs him gently* It was a difficult time for all of them, I can imagine he was trying everything humanely possible to suppress any thoughts of his home and family in New York, but the mind always finds a way to bring it all back to the surface...
