I would like to; my only concern is that this will mean I am tied to buying ebooks only from Amazon :( Pros/cons of this vs other ebook readers?

It depends on the retailer, I guess. I actually got most of the books on mine from "pirates" or free library sources, so I haven't really noticed the potential purchasing restrictions :p Technically you can read anything you buy from anywhere on Kindle, if you can be bothered to remove any copy protection and convert it to mobi format.

The display on the Kindle is both a pro and a con - the con side being it's not lit up in any way and uses buttons rather than a touchscreen which some people might find archaic, the pro side being that means the battery lasts weeks as opposed to hours on something like an ipad or galaxy tab, and the e-ink screen is a lot easier on the eyes. And of course there's a big size difference (kindle is standard paperback width, ipad is like the Guinness book of world records or something), but that's personal preference.
