*Aziraphale sits in his bookshop, waiting for the second time in the past few days for someone. This time, it is a different person.*

*Yvaine slips into the shop, taking a moment for her eyes to adjust before looking around, muttering about how she can't understand how people breathe that stuff that passes for air.* Aziraphale, are you here? I hope I've not wandered into the wrong place...

*A voice calls out from the back room.* Yes, dear. I'm in the back. Sorry it's a bit dark, it frightens the customers away.

*He pops out from the back room and waves.* Hello.

Ah. Hello. Why would you want to frighten away the customers?

*She waves to him, then starts studying the bookshelves, marveling at all the books of which she has never before heard.*

Oh, so they don't buy books. These are very rare and special to me. My old collection as well as Adam's contributions. Most people think I'm going to be a regular book shop like Waterstones. It's sort of keeping away the uneducated masses. Most rare booksellers do so. It's almost a trick of the trade.

...dear, I've never read a Bible. I have no idea what the basic story is supposed to be.

((At least you have cool accents.))

Oh. Well, er, it's a bit of a long story, as you can see by looking at any of these volumes. I could give you one to borrow if you wish to read up.

((True, true. And Scottish is the best, of course.))

I think I would like that. I'll probably have a great many questions for you, though.

((It is a very nice one. Are you Scottish?))

Well, having experienced most of it, I'll be happy to answer. Except Ineffability. No one really knows about that except Him.

((Yep. Not being biased about the accent thing at all.))

So...what did you do then, after you gave your sword away?

angelical_azi April 19 2005, 17:55:33 UTC
Oh, I guarded the Eastern Gate of Eden for a bit longer, although it wasn't really the same without the sword. After a while I was re-assigned to generally tagging notches on the side of Good. Helping to develop humanity, miracles, the odd moment of divine ecstasy...that sort of thing.

Miracles? You helped keep mostly-dead people from being completely dead?

*blinks* Er, sometimes I suppose, if you mean sick people about to pass away. Generally nice deeds when people have little hope. Rescuing people from burning buildings when the roof is about to collapse or pushing people out of the way of on-coming traffic.

Mmm. I suspect it's a bit like believing in the postman.

((I need to watch that movie again.))

I suppose.

Maybe the people in your world are like teenagers, right now. They're ungrateful and want to insist they don't need any help. But they'll grow up.

They've been like that for the last six thousand years. I think it's a long standing habit. But no matter. It's my duty.

((Didn't mean to start a new bit, there. Oh well.))

What were they like before, then?

((No big. *pets* I keep picturing Azi in a kilt, now...))
