When he thought back to Abernathy, one of the evening dates that came to mind was when she had taken him to an ice cream shop. He could actually eat and taste things, although his ability was a bit muted compared to humans. He had actually let her order for him, since he had no idea what to pick for himself. She had picked a hot fudge Sunday for them to split, ordering one of the larger sizes.
“Hey, want to see a trick that my sister taught me?” Abernathy asked.
Dear lord. Who knew what it was that she would show him. “Go ahead,” Angel said to her.
She popped the cherry stem off the cherry and dropped it into her mouth, seemingly swirling it around in her mouth for a minute before plucking it back out of her mouth, holding it up for him to see.
“You tied it in a knot,” he commented, staring at it.
“Yep. TJ loves doing it to get people drooling in clubs,” Abernathy said with a giggle.
“I can see why.” If he was a teenager, his voice would have cracked right then. It was amazing just how one little thing like a cherry stem could make it so that he couldn’t even stand up for quite some time.
