Random question: What's the American equivalent of chavs? Is it homies?

"Chav" is the English term for referring to someone who is, um, ignorant and uneducated isn't it? If so then no, it's not "homey" because that's slang for "homeboy" or "homegirl" and usually a friendly term for referring to someone from the same neighbourhood or town.
There is "hobo" though, but that refers to a person who doesn't have a home and moves from place to place...
I don't know what the American equivalent is actually. I've never come across it.
In Ireland, we call them "knackers" (or that’s what we use in our area anyway, I think there might be different terms used in different places).
And that's all the useless info I have really.

A chav is a townie... You know, burberry caps, tracksuits, Nike Airs, bottoms of trousers into socks... I could go on. I consider the place where I live to be Town Of The Chav (O_o) chavs.co.uk is quite funny...

I might need more information. I don't think we have anything like that in the states, but it sounds rather odd.
