Online Shopping Rocks

Aug 14, 2007 17:23

Today was a good day for me in terms of online shopping. I've purchased a bedroom set (bed, two bed-side thingies and a closet) for about 1,400 shekel including shipping. The normal price for such a set would be over 3,000. Also, got Barak the voice recorder he wanted for 46 shekel (normally priced around 200) and I got an oven (yay!) at 1,500 or ( Read more... )

where did you buy these things? new? second hand?
and I'd expect someone financially educated as yourself to not give in to the whole payments illusion. Clearly you didn't spread things over 2 years to collect interest on the money you're not spending now. the interest you'd accrue is nominal. I personally prefer to pay my dues and get over with it, rather then drag payments out for a long time.
pay as though it was a band-aid. It's only the cell-phone companies that prefer to jab the knife and twist slowly for 3 years...

They have places here in the US where you can "rent to own", but by the time you pay their rental fee plus whatever other fees they add on, you end up paying double by the time you actually own it.

I bought a couch and made payments but there was a deal at the store that you could pay 0 interest for 2 years. Of course if you don't read the fine print - and don't have it paid off by that date, you owe the interest on the original purchase price rather than the remaining balance of what you have left.

I bought it on Olsale. And the reason I choose payments is simple. I don't currently have three grand to spend on these things. Just don't have the cash. Might have something to do with the fact I need to pay my landlord 4 months of rent in advance at 3,600 a month. You do the math. So since I need an oven and want a new bedroom the only way I can pay for it is by spreading the sum over as much time as possible. That way instead of paying interest for a minus in the bank, I pay a couple of hundred shekel a month for each of the things I bought. It's not an illusion, it's comfortable.

Good deals!!! Furniture and appliances can get really expensive. The only thing I've bought that we have in the house is my couch, and it was just over $2,000. All the appliances were there when we moved in and the other stuff we either got used as people we knew replaced their old things, or I'd ask for some stuff for gifts for my birthday and/or Christmas.

Thats damn pretty. I like the colors - though you may have to try to reproduce the room lighting to get it to look that way.
