It's kind of like the nature vs. nurture argument. Was Kate a criminal because it was in her blood - because her father was a criminal first? Or was Kate a criminal because Wayne took away everything good that Kate had and those circumstances forced her into that role? I personally think it's a little of both.
Lost did an excellent job with Kate up until that last season. Then it was major regression. *sigh*
slfjdlfkjdslfjds YES, to all of this. I freaking love this aspect of Kate. And you're right, it's not something you see on TV every day. Aaaaand probably accounts for some people's aversion to the character. Eh.
Another great meta. I love how the show never shied away from Kate being a true criminal.
Kate killed her dad because Kate wanted to, because he was a bad man and she saw that badness manifesting in herself and feared it. There's some beautiful poetry to that, in a disturbing but really interesting way.
Thank you! I think it was important that they never tried to soften Kate's criminal side. Even when they had her raise Aaron, we see that she still had a plan B that involved money, guns and running. That's the Kate I will always love.
I think I love Kate the Criminal the best. It was always super exciting to see her on the run and robbing--I don't care what anyone else says, I love her being a magnificent mastermind of that robbery in "Whatever the Case May Be." Such a BAMF.
