You know this has become a bit of a pattern with New Who - companions who don't ever want to leave but are forced to by other things. Rose? Got stuck in another dimension. Jack? Got killed, brought back, and turned into a fixed point that the Doctor doesn't really like being around. Donna? If she remembers the Doctor, it will burn her mind up.

The only exception is Martha, but then she left because she needed to get over her crush on the Doctor.

Yeah, I'd been thinking about the fact that Martha is the only one that got to leave voluntarily (from New Who at least). WHY'S IT SO HEART BREAKING
