Couple of days ago, we had a woman who was paying for a $25 book her friend's new puppy ate while she and her friend ran up to the grocery store. She laughed about how much she was paying, finding the whole thing amusing. I asked her what was so funny because usually people are upset about paying for damaged things. She said '$25 for a book is nothing. The puppy also ate the friend's couch and a chair while we were gone. I got off easy.'
Oh well, I guess she proves the old excuse then! Though usually it's homework.
(There's an ad on Aussie TV for an insurance agency that has a guy tearing up his bill to emphasise his speech about how good the company is. When he realises what he's done he dumps it on the ground in front of the dog and pretends the dog did it (it doesn't help, his wife saw him do it).)
