Oh woooow, this was lovely. Cassie's regrets, and the comparisons, and the pain she and Tim share that Kon can't understand... and Kon trying but not knowing when he does exactly the wrong thing. It makes me want to squish him a little.

I really loved the feel of the piece, and how well it deals with the emotions that don't go away just because the crisis has been fixed.

Thanks for sharing this!

Thank you! I could see a lot of people talking about the fact that things couldn't be automatically fixed emotionally by folks being alive again, but I wanted to see a little more fic for it. Tim is the most obvious choice for exploring this idea, but I felt Cassie was just as good an example. Starting this story, helped me work out a little of my own emotions regarding how things have changed since OYL.

Aww. I like the snap-shots into the past, and how the end ties it all together and Cassie realizes what she really wants and really needs. I need to get at least semi-caught up on the whole Tim/Tam thing (they're dating? She's like the daughter/granddaughter of Lucius, right?), but how it's the way she made him laugh that really affects Cassie. And I love the last line.

Also, the "last lesson she takes from Tim for awhile", well, it makes me wonder when she'll start taking lessons again...

Thank you! In a way, it's my manner of mentally processing the fact that Cassie and Kon are back together and the fact that Tim/Tam is one of my new favorite things combined with my fervent belief that the time Tim and Cassie spent dating in those dark days has made them better friends now that everyone's alive again. And who knows? My T/C ship may cannonically sail again someday.

Tam is Lucius's very competent and rather observant younger daughter. She and Tim have been "engaged" for a while as part of a cover-story to hide stuff from Vicky Vale, and the subtext/flirtation has been ridiculously fun.

Your comment on the lessons Cassie might take from Tim has my brain toying around with another plot-bunny. Recent issues of Red Robin have been dealing with the Unternet--kind of like the Matrix for the amusement of supervillains. It's a virtual world in the mind that corrupts you the longer you stay. I've been waiting for somebody to write fic about the darn thing, but if no one else will, I may have to...

*sigh* reading DCU fic again makes me want to get caught up again, but there's so much that happens. Maybe I'll start with Red Robin or something.

Hey, if no one else will write fic, then I say definitely do it yourself.

Don't really have any opinion about Tim/Tam, but I would at least hope that Tim and Cassie stay friends -- good friends. Kon may be alive, but he still died, and I think that's something that, at the very least, will connect Tim and Cassie for the rest of their lives -- losing him. Kon being back doesn't erase the grief and pain they went through, their actions after his death, and everything. With such a deep connection, well -- there aren't very many people who share a connection like that.

And I suppose that means I have to get caught up on Teen Titans too, to see what Kon is like now. Erm, is there a good issue to start with (is it even the same series)?

Start with Red Robin. It is awesome. The art just gets better and better, the writing is oodles of fun and just.... yeah. Start there.

And yes! Even with so many relationships resetting back to "normal", I feel that there will always be a certain intimacy between Tim and Cassie now, an aspect of closeness to their friendship that won't go away and wouldn't have happened otherwise.

Meh. If you as me, Titans has only recently gotten good again. I recently read it for the Red Robin crossover, honestly. But that? Was pretty darned good, as is everything that touches the Red Robin title.

Oh, that's lovely. I really really liked that. I'm... having trouble articulating at the moment, but it was lovely. Quiet and thoughtful... learning to communicate, learning to heal.

Thank you! I find your articulation quite flattering, actually. ~ _^

And yes, those were the very ideas I wanted to get across with the story.

This was gorgeous!
I love the torn feeling she has, the push and pull she has between Kon & Tim, and the way she works through it and finds a way to step forward and grow up, let herself heal.
Beautiful!

Thanks! Tug-of-war is always fun. I kind of wanted it to be the reverse of her attraction to Tim during OYL. There, she felt drawn to Tim, but was still clinging to the memory of Kon. Here, she's trying to let go of Tim's memory (at least, in that romantic manner) to better get on with her life.
